OVERVIEW
Saltwater Classroom is a Maine-based environmental education non-profit that strives to solve pressing ocean issues by instilling an ethic of ocean stewardship in today’s youth. Through weeklong workshops driven by engaging lessons, challenging experiments, meaningful field missions, and creative projects, Saltwater Classroom introduces young students to the marine environment, sparking a passion for our oceans through hands-on, experience-based education.
Saltwater Classroom is actively looking for individuals to join our team as educators for upcoming workshops this spring and summer. As an educator with Saltwater Classroom, you will be an integral part of our team and will help to drive the success of our educational workshops. Educators with Saltwater Classroom will help execute workshops, conduct lessons, and supervise excursions.
Marine Science and Conservation Educators with Saltwater Classroom will work closely with the Executive Director, the Education Coordinator, as well as the rest of the Saltwater Classroom team.
RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS
The primary responsibilities and tasks of a Marine Science and Conservation Educator will include:

Collaborate with the Education Coordinator to plan workshop curriculum and schedule

Lead lessons and activities during educational workshops

Assist other educators with lessons and activities during workshops

Oversee and supervise students during workshops
-
Other duties may be assigned based on unique skill set of educator and prior experience with subject matter areas
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
Education:
-
Bachelor's Degree in one of the following focus areas: Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Marine Science, Oceanography, or similar program, OR
-
Undergraduate student working towards Bachelor's Degree in the above focus areas.
Desired Skills and Experience:

Experience working with children, ages 9 to 12

Ability to lead and convey confidence in leadership

Outstanding verbal communication skills

A strong and demonstrated passion for the environment and environmental education

Competence to work independently and take initiative

Responsible, reliable, and motivated
