How do you spend your days? What are your passions? What is your occupation?
My wife, Samantha, and I welcomed our first child last year, and being a new father feels like a blend of passion and occupation. I love getting outdoors—hiking with our golden retriever, Clover, skiing, and playing disc golf. I also enjoy woodworking and gardening as more domestic hobbies. Professionally, I’m a strategy consultant working with early-stage companies to support growth through innovation and corporate development.
Explain your connection to the ocean. How does it influence your life?
I grew up in midcoast Maine—a community built and inspired by the ocean. My experiences on the ocean have shaped my interests and values, and I want my daughter to have the same opportunities to discover a sense of wonder, respect, and connection with nature.
The mission of Saltwater Classroom is to bring together young students, as well as learners of all ages, through an innovative approach to ocean education. How does this apply to your experience?
To me, the power of Saltwater Classroom is its ability to inform and empower young people with a simple idea: the world isn’t set in stone. They can reach out, touch it, influence it, and ultimately make it better.
What are your earliest ocean memories?
Fishing for crabs (hunks of pepperoni work best) and exploring Penobscot Bay with my family on our parent's sailboat.
If you had to pick one thing, what is your favorite aspect of the ocean? We know, it's a broad question.
It's vastness - the size and power of the ocean can put things in perspective.
Is there a dream ocean destination on your list? Where would you travel to next?
Liveaboard diving trip to Isla del Coco. But in reality, I'm not picky... just give me a beach, a book, and a cocktail!
